The Brief
Choose an album and redesign the LP sleeve artwork in your own style. The finished product must be distinct from the original cover art and cannot use any existing IP, such as photos of the artist.
The Solution
It was a very tough call to pick just one artist, let alone one album, but I chose to design cover art for boygenius's 2023 album, the record.
The Process
‘the record’ offers plenty of imagery and themes to draw from. The album is largely about relationships and the strength of the friendship between the three band members, and it references themes of long drives, identity, uncertainty, nostalgia and small, everyday moments. Using photographs from my own archives of work, the reimagined album art leans into imagery that evokes roadtrips, being in a car with close friends, and views from the window.
